Norton 9 – 2012

Review

We arrived in the village of Norton in pouring rain, the kind that soaks you right through to your underwear, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who was thinking ‘What on earth are we doing?’. After huddling in the corner of a school room for a while Dave O made us go outside to ‘warm up’. (This didn’t work by the way!) Everyone headed up to the start, stood shivering for a minute, and then we were off!

The boys and Cat were off like rockets and within seconds I had lost sight of them in the 340 strong crowd.

The whole field set off at good pace and there wasn’t any problem with crowding in the first half mile like you get in some races. The first couple of miles of the course were more like a steeple chase than a road run as the country lanes had flooded with the deluge (which continued to come down throughout the whole race).

The route as a whole was good, with a couple of hills but nothing compared to some of the efforts Dave makes us do on a Saturday morning, and I imagine the views would be glorious on a sunny day! It was downhill for the last mile making for a good fast finish, although there was a rather sharp slippery corner, which Will can testify to, having slipped on it and getting rather muddy!

Congratulations to Will who came second, to Cat who placed 5th lady, and to everyone else for turning up and running in that weather!
