Enjoy your Running

Enjoy

Enjoy your running sessions, never letting it become a “drag” or a “toil of pleasure”. When you start running, you may experience sore muscles. You could try massage by all means, but the important thing is to get out and run again within the next couple of days even if it only for 10 or 15 minutes. This allows your heart to pump the blood around the body and raise the blood pressure, using the exercise to flush out waste products which cause the muscular discomfort. What this in effect means is letting the heart do the gentle massage for you. Hot baths also help. So does turning a cold water hose on your legs or sitting in a cold bath up to your waist as soon as possible after finishing your run. Ice packs can be used on parts of the body where soreness bothers you, followed by application of heat packs. The cold brings the natural cortisone to the area which stimulates circulation and helps the recovery process. The heat helps to prevent stiffness. A short duration, of about 15 minutes, per treatment is recommended. Regularity of training is an important factor if you want to progress.
